Some Reddit users have recently observed that subscribing to YouTube Premium does not completely eliminate ads. Google explains that the subscription ensures no ads appear at the beginning or end of videos and prevents interruptions by advertising inserts.
However, certain ads, including branding or promotions added by content creators, may still be visible. The YouTube support page clarifies that these promotions could be related to external sites, products, channel subscriptions, or event tickets.
YouTube has been actively combating ad blockers and has encountered issues with video playback on devices with AdBlock or similar tools enabled. Users were prompted to disable the blocker, whitelist YouTube, or subscribe to YouTube Premium. According to YouTube, the use of ad blockers violates its terms of service, as advertising supports creators worldwide and enables access to loved content.
To promote premium subscriptions, YouTube introduced 30-second unskippable ads to its TV app and experimented with longer but less frequent ad breaks. Additionally, they are testing a new notification for free users with an attached timer, encouraging them to upgrade to YouTube Premium.
In other news, YouTube is currently testing a feature called "Play Something." This new feature aims to help users who are unsure of what to watch on the platform. With the click of a button, users can allow the app to randomly select videos for them, offering a more spontaneous and casual viewing experience.

Advertisеment
Why not just YouTube add an “ad-free” plan but more higher price, if they don’t want to shove ads to the viewers’ mouth?
It’s a shame we don’t have several options to choose from! Sure, we have Odysee and a few others. But YouTube is way too big and decides what we should watch. Control all advertising, etc. Then we get bombarded with advertising and sponsors from the people who make the clips.
Otherwise, I have written in another post that you can use a front-end as long as it works. I use FreeTube and Invidious. But you never know with YouTube. Soon they’ll stop it too.
