After introducing a major design overhaul for Firefox, Mozilla Foundation now wants to polish some minor bits and pieces in its browser. Firefox 97, currently available in the Nightly channel (where preview builds come the earliest), received redesigned scrollbars.

Firefox 97 now uses compact Windows 11-styled scrollbars with “up” and “down” buttons hidden by default.
Older Firefox versions (Dev, Beta, and Stable) still use the wider Windows 10 variant.
Enable Windows 11-styled scrollbars in Firefox
To enable Windows 11-styled scrollbars in Firefox, update the browser to version 97. As of now, it is available only in the Nightly channel. Mozilla plans to ship Firefox 97 to all users in February 2022. Now, do the following.
- Open a new tab and type
about:config
in the address bar. - Find the widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style option.
- Click the edit button with a pencil icon and enter a new value. You can specify 0 (default), 1 (macOS), 2 (Linux), 3 (Android), 4 (Windows 10), and 5 (Windows 11).
- Click the button with a checkmark icon to apply changes. Note that the browser will change the scrollbars design immediately.
Done!
So, Firefox allows its users to select scrollbar style using a parameter on the about:config page. Users can now pick one of five different variants from various platforms.
We would like to warn you that you should not use Nightly as your daily driver. Nightly builds of Firefox include the most fresh and often unstable features, so it can easily cause a data loss. You should use Nightly for testing some new functionality, which often includes both consumer and developer features. That's what is its primary purpose.
Microsoft Edge also supports new Windows 11-styled scrollbars, although the feature is currently hidden behind a flag on the edge://flags pages
. Even Edge Canary still uses older Windows 10-styled scrollbars. You can change that by navigating to edge://flags/#edge-overlay-scrollbars-win-style
and enabling the Windows style overlay scrollbars flag.

Huge tabs and spacing in menus, but compact scrollbar? Why?!?!?
Modern design is so modern.
Why can’t apps just adapt to the OS? Use the old one on 10 and new one on 11!
