Before Microsoft released Windows 11, the Software giant allowed only EdgeHTML-based browsers in the Microsoft Store. Now, with Edge Legacy and its proprietary engine being six feet under, Microsoft embraces Chromium and eases off rules in its store. To bring more customers and developers to the Microsoft Store, Microsoft allowed publishing third-party browsers with various engines (there are many other new policies, such as permission to use custom payment systems, CDNs, unpackaged apps, third-party stores, more). As a result, we see developers bringing popular browsers to the Microsoft Store, providing users with an easy and trustworthy place to get their favorite apps.
Opera and Yandex have already released their browsers in the Microsoft Store (you can also download Epic Games Store, the first third-party marketplace) and more to join soon. In a blog post on its official website, Mozilla Technologies welcomed the new rules and promised to release the Firefox browser in the Microsoft Store soon. The company does not provide a specific date, but it says users can expect Firefox to show up in the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 before the end of this year.

"Microsoft has loosened restrictions on its Windows Store that effectively banned third-party browsers from the store. We have been advocating for years for more user choice and control on the Windows operating system. We welcome the news that their store is now more open to companies and applications, including independent browsers like Firefox. We believe that a healthier internet is one where people have an opportunity to choose from a diverse range of browsers and browser engines. Firefox will be available in the Windows store later this year. "
As of now, the new Microsoft Store is only available on Windows 11, which means those staying on Windows 10 still need to visit respective websites to download third-party browsers, gaming stores, and various apps. Still, the Software giant promises to release the new Store on Windows 10 as well.
