Adduplex recently published their January 2021 report, revealing the latest numbers about the Windows market. Despite Microsoft being less pushy in distributing the new OS, Windows 11 is steadily growing and slowly getting more and more users. Now we have the latest stats from Steam and its regular hardware survey. It shows how Windows 11 is doing among those who like to play games on their computers.

Windows 10 remains the dominant operating system in Steam. It holds 77.82% of the market, but in January 2022, it lost 3.92%. It appears that all those users went for Windows 11 as the latter gained 3.41% and now holds 13.56%. Surprisingly, Windows 7 gained 0.49% (currently 3.73%), but that increase can be within a margin of error (Steam Hardware Survey is opt-in).
It is also worth noting that all the most popular Windows versions in Steam are 64-bit. 32-bit versions of Windows 10 and 7 hold only 0.08% and 0.21%, respectively. 32-bit Windows 8/8.1 is nowhere to be found, and Windows 11 32-bit does not exist at all as Microsoft now ships its latest operating system in 64-bit flavor only.
Overall, Windows keeps crushing other platforms in Steam with its overwhelming 96.17%. macOS has 2.77%, and Linux holds a puny 1.06%.
Finally, here is the most popular PC hardware among Steam users:
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1650, and GTX 1050 Ti.
- CPU: four cores at clock speeds between 2.3 and 2.69GHz.
- CPU Manufacturers: Intel at 68.93% and AMD at 31.07%.
- RAM: 16GB.
- VRAM: 8GB.
- Screen resolution: 1920x1080 on single-monitor setups and 3840x1080 on multi-monitor setups.
