During the curretly ongoing online event, Microsoft announced that Windows 11 will be able to run Android apps natively. In fact, this is not surprising, as we all heard about this upcoming here and there. Finally, the presentation shed some light on this. Now we know that Amazon App store will serve as the app source for the next generation of Windows.
After being installed, Android apps will be stored locally. You will find them in the Start menu. Obviously, after you launch such an app, it will appear in the taskbar.
We can expect this feature to utilize bits of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), as Android is a Linux-based OS with its own user space. Microsoft will have to emulate that user space to make Android apps feel home.
A redesigned Microsoft Store app will play an important role in software distribution. It will now include classic Win32 apps, UWP, PWA, and finally these Android apps. Microsoft is about to release Windows 11 in Autumn, so everyone should be able to try the change in action.
