Microsoft confirms bug that causes BSOD with latest cumulative updates

On March 9, 2021, Microsoft released regular Patch Tuesday updates for all supported Windows versions. These updates brought lots of security fixes and several zero-day vulnerabilities patches. Unfortunately, some severe bugs arrived alongside security improvements. Many users report having trouble printing documents from different apps, and Microsoft has already confirmed the problem. 

The company has updated the Windows 10 Health Dashboard documentation with the latest information about the issue. According to the data from Microsoft, “after installing KB5000802, you might receive an APC_INDEX_MISMATCH error with a blue screen when attempting to print to certain printers in some apps.”

This bug affects several client and server Windows versions from Windows 10 1803 up to Windows 10 20H2 with different printers. Some users have zero problems with printing, while systems with Kyocera, Dymo, Ricoh, and other printers suffer from constant BSODs.

Microsoft is actively investigating the bug

Unfortunately, there is no official way to fix this problem, but Microsoft is actively investigating the bug. The company will provide more information about possible solutions shortly. If you cannot work with a computer or print any documents due to APC_INDEX_MISMATCH for win32full.sys BSOD, the only way to get a system back into the working condition is to uninstall the March cumulative update.

This is not the first critical bug that severely breaks users’ workflow. Recently, a cumulative update crippled webcams for some users. The good thing is that Microsoft reacted quickly and confirmed the issue. The company is now working on fixing all the known bugs.

If you want to avoid similar problems in the future, be sure to pause Windows updates. Luckily, nowadays, Microsoft allows pause Windows updates regardless of installed SKU. Also, a relatively new system called Known Issue Rollback helps Microsoft prevent issues and bugs reaching millions of Windows users.
