Microsoft is once again updating the built-in File Explorer app in Windows 11. The app will get a new Home page and the left pane, along with new views and closer Microsoft 365 integration.
Recent Windows 11 Insider builds for the Dev Channel sport references to a modern Home page and a new sidebar. These elements will utilize XAML and WinUI and follow Fluent Design.
There are also references to new File Explorer features. There are new panes, such as "Activities", "Conversations", "Shared Status", and "Insights" panels. Perhaps they are related to Microsoft 365.
The recently discovered Gallery folder is also receiving a portion of updates, with tiles that are placeholders for images and groups of images.
If you are brave enough, here are the IDs for ViveTool by PhantomOcean3, but all of them do nothing useful except the gallery, and FileExplorerInsights, 38613007 even breaks File Explorer. You have been warned.

The new File Explorer design will be more touch-friendly. Buttons will become slightly larger, and the sidebar and header will have more gaps.
These changes to File Explorer are expected to be available to Insiders somewhere in the end of 2023.
