Microsoft Edge now lets you “Follow” RSS feeds

About three months ago, Microsoft Edge Canary received a new mysterious experimental flag called “Followable Web.” It did not work back then, and its purpose was unknown. In the latest update to Edge Canary, Microsoft has finally enabled the “Followable Web” feature, allowing users to track changes on various web pages.

“Followable Web” is currently available to a limited number of Edge Insiders in the Canary (as spotted by Leopeva64-2 on Reddit). In a nutshell, that is a copy of Google Chrome’s “Follow” feature the company introduced in May.

It allows you to follow websites as you follow people on social media. The browser will notify you about changes and new content on the website you follow using a dedicated following section.

In Google Chrome, users can follow websites in the following section on the New Tab page. Microsoft Edge uses a similar approach: you can follow a website using a button in the address bar and check its updates in the side panel. You can trigger the latter using a context menu in the Collections flyout.

Another change Microsoft Edge Canary recently received is a revamped “Send tab to self” feature that allows you to send web pages to other devices. The second version of the feature uses in-app banners to notify about received pages. That allows the browser to use “Send tab to self” with do not disturb mode and not bother the user with notifications when not in focus.
