Among the huge number of new features, Windows 11 build 22557 brought the ability to create Live Captions, similar to how Chrome does. The new Live Captions feature supports any audio source with text, even user's dictation via the connected microphone.
The Live Captions feature will help all users to better understand speech by viewing subtitles for content. Windows 11 will generate subtitles automatically for any content with sound and speech. It works even when your device is not connected to the Internet.
The subtitles area can be located at the top or bottom of the screen, as well as in a floating window. Users can independently resize the window and disrupt the appearance of subtitles by applying or creating a style.
You can also turn on the microphone and make it create subtitles for your own words. This can be useful during voice conversations. Live Captions only supports content in English (US) as of now. Check out the following demo:

You can turn on the Live Captions feature using the Win + Ctrl + L keyboard shortcut or using the Ease of Access menu in the Quick Settings flyout. At the first start, it will ask you to download the required speech model.
The Live Captions feature was first introduced in yesterday's Windows 11 Build 22557, released to Insiders in the Dev channel. It includes tons of other changes that we have reviewed in this and subsequent posts.
