Google intends to enhance its Assistant by adding generative artificial intelligence features. The voice assistant will leverage the latest models similar to those used in ChatGPT and Bard. Implementation of this feature has already in progress, and it will first appear on mobile devices.
At the same time, Google will be reducing the team devoted to the development of the existing voice assistant. According to Axios, the company will be laying off "dozens" of employees.
While Google has not provided specific details on the added features for Assistant, it is likely that the voice assistant will possess improved capabilities in answering questions based on internet searches.
However, the timeline for integrating this technology into smart home products is still unclear, as are the measures to address privacy concerns.
Previously, Google announced the discontinuation of Assistant integration with third-party note and list apps. As of June 20, any notes and lists created using the voice assistant were deleted.
