The issue of spam and scammers on YouTube has reached a critical point, leading the platform to prevent users from posting of links in comments and descriptions on Shorts. These restrictions will be implemented gradually for all users and will be fully enforced by the end of September. To address the issue, YouTube will provide content creators with an alternative method to link full videos to Shorts.
Additionally, YouTube will prohibit the inclusion of clickable social media icons on channel banners due to the prevalence of misleading links. Instead, the platform plans to allocate a new space in channel profiles for external links, with this update rolling out on August 23rd.
YouTube clarified that they have no plans to disable any other links, recognizing importance for creators to share information and recommend products/brands to their communities. YouTube ensures that creators can still include important links in their content.
In other news, YouTube recently announced that it will no longer display video recommendations to users who have disabled their watch history. The main page will only feature the search bar and the left-side menu.
Furthermore, YouTube has begun testing AI-powered video content summaries. Currently, this feature is only available to a limited number of users.
