Microsoft has recently announced that Azure will stop providing support for MariaDB after September 19, 2025. The company recommends that users switch to Azure Database for MySQL, a more flexible server that is better equipped for mission-critical workloads.
Azure for MySQL boasts improved performance, architecture, and control across all service levels compared to Azure for MariaDB. It also provides more cost optimization options, including support for scalable compute options, and enhances performance for business-critical workloads that require low latency, high concurrency, fast failover, and high scalability.
Additionally, the ability to configure hot spares in the same or different zones improves uptime.
Users should be aware that any workloads using MariaDB in Azure after September 19, 2025 will be deleted. This may result in the loss of associated application data.
