Firefox version 117 has become available. It includes improvements to autofill credit card information. In addition, the browser has a new CSS Compatibility tooltip in the Developer Tools Inspector, and the Enhanced CSS Embeddings feature is now enabled by default. Here are the key changes.
What's new in Firefox 117
- Added
dom.event.contextmenu.shift_suppresses_event
option toabout:config
to disable showing context menu when right mouse button is pressed while holding shift key. That's because some sites attach their own event handler to this combination. - Support for automatically remembering and filling in credit card numbers in web forms has been extended to users with IT, ES, AT, BE, and PL locales. Previously, this feature was only available to users in the US, Canada, and the UK.
- Resolved an issue with YouTube video list scrolling when screen reader navigation was enabled.
- There is also support for RTCRtpScriptTransform and new CSS properties math-style / math-depth / font-size: math.
- In tools for web developers, tools for checking compatibility with other browsers have been expanded. A tip about CSS compatibility will appear in the inspection mode. In case of compatibility problems, a special indicator is shown next to the property. When hovering over it, it will show information about which browsers with this property may experience problems.
- The Web Console stopped clearing output when executing the console.clear() method if "Enable persistent logs" is set in the preferences.
In addition to innovations and bug fixes , 20 vulnerabilities have been fixed in Firefox 117 . The 14 vulnerabilities, which are marked as dangerous, are caused by memory problems, such as buffer overflows and access to already freed memory areas. These issues can potentially lead to malicious code being executed when specially designed pages are opened.
On Linux, Firefox 117 removes screen sharing indicator on Wayland from version to clear up confusion. As the developers explained, "desktop environments typically already provide sharing indicators."
