Microsoft today released updates for two built-in Windows 11 app. The new Notepad and Media Players apps are available to Insiders. Here are the changes.
What's new in Notepad
- Native ARM64 support. Microsoft made the Notepad performance faster and better on ARM64 devices. Changes are available in versions 11.2204 and higher, in all channels.
- Improved performance. Besides ARM64 devices, users of traditional platforms will find Notepad performing better. You will see it working fast with very large files or replacing large blocks of text. These changes are available in Notepad 11.2205 and higher in the Dev channel.
- Improved accessibility: Improved support for screen readers, text scaling, access keys, and other assistive technologies are available starting in version 11.2204 and higher in all channels, with additional improvements in version 11.2205 and higher available in the Dev channel.
Media Player improvements
Media Player version 11.2205 is available in the Dev channel. It comes with performance improvements on large media collections. Also, you can now sort songs and albums in your collection by date added.
Finally, Microsoft is rolling out support for CD playback. Besides, the app better adapts to theme changes. It also supports the media content drag and drop operation. These updates are also now available to all Windows Insiders.
